It was finally necessary to open this drawer of dreams.
To remember that if hope dies, opportunities for great journeys are lost. Because without excitement it is very difficult to achieve anything. Because leaving home every day with excitement in your pocket is essential. It is so powerful that it is capable of drawing smiles, feeding dreams, awakening dormant emotions, and keeping alive those that already existed. Hope is a life engine capable of taking us as far as we dream, which sustains us along the way, which encourages us to keep moving forward, which motivates us to fight for the journey. And they don’t have to be very big dreams, nor far-off or exotic destinations. They can also be small hopes, simple getaways, nearby walks. It doesn’t matter.
What is really important is to never let hope slip through the hole in your pocket. And if that happens, you simply have to pick it up from the ground, mend the tear, and put it away again. Then it will hold on again by itself, growing strong at your side to avoid getting lost along the way. And even though it sometimes seems to fade away amidst adversities and obstacles, if the dream is firm and the destination is in your mind, sooner or later you will reach it. So choose your dream, find a comfortable place for it in your mind, and let it germinate. If you take proper care of it, it will soon take root and spread through your interior, running through your veins and, one day, it will have so much strength that it will bloom until it becomes a reality.
Based on dreams, we have set foot in places that seemed impossible to us, we have walked on a glacier, climbed a dune with the oldest sand in the world, gone down the rapids of a great river, flown over incredible places, we have known pure hospitality, the value of smiles, discovered new cultures, we have camped next to hippos, arrived at deserted beaches, enjoyed the midnight sun, thousands of fireflies shining in the dark… Because no matter how dark the night is, there will always be some small firefly keeping a tiny but sufficient light to illuminate the way.
That is why I trust so much in the hope that makes the impossible possible. That is why I won’t let it escape. And that is why this drawer is opened, to fill it with all the destinations we have, at some point, dreamed of: Nepal, Madagascar, Peru, Argentina, Malaysia, Bolivia, New Zealand, Australia…
Because every journey starts as a simple dream that, little by little, grows until you turn it into reality. And the same thing happens with the great journey that is life itself.
